Gosso Yakitori Dining is a casual Yakitori restaurant nestled along the riverside of Boat Quay. It’s charming old school vibe take us back to Japan whenever we visit. You can expect to be greeted by the enthusiastic chatter of Japanese conversation as well as the irresistible aroma of charred meat emanating from the authentic binchotan grill, where high-quality meats are masterfully grilled by the chef atop a charcoal fire. As their name suggests, they specialize in Gosso Yakitori- Chicken Liver wrapped in crepine (a thin layer of fat netting)and like many of the dishes, it was superb.

Chicken Thigh with Leek (Negima)- $3.30 per stick

The classic combination of sweet leeks and chicken thigh is always a winner. The sauce they use isn't overpowering but flavourful to complement the natural sweetness of the fresh chicken which was grilled to perfection, offering a nice char exterior while the inside remained juicy and succulent.

Chicken Minced Ball(Tsukune)Original/ Cheese- $3.30/$3.80 per stick

The chicken meatballs were made with 16 different spices. We tried the Original as well as the cheese version and our favourite has to be the original. It had complex umami and spice taste with beautiful caramelisation and was juicy and tender, falling apart in the mouth effortlessly. The cheese version was good too with the same properties as the original but with an oozy cheesy centre. However, we felt that the cheese didn't do much for the dish and was lost among the spices.

Fried Chicken with Tartar Sauce- $13.80

Served in a piping hot sizzling dish, one can't help but notice that the tartar sauce is bubbling away, served as a warm sauce. The chicken was crispy and moist, but where this dish shines is when you mop up that tartar sauce with it. It's hard to comprehend a warm tartar sauce as we are accustomed to having it cold. The tartar sauce served as a cream sauce, had a more mellow profile but a creamier consistency. A refreshing take on Japanese fried chicken.

Pregnant Fish (Shishamo)- $2.30 per stick

The fish was grilled excellently. Biting into the skin creates a pleasant snap while the flesh inside remained moist and tender, contrasting with the fish roe which creates a micro popping sensation all over the mouth.

Mentai Dashi Omlette- $7.80

The Mentai Dashi Omelette is a great sharing option for groups of at least 3-4 people as it is generously portioned. It has a good balance of dashi and mentaiko, with the latter lifting the interest of a classic dish.

Chicken Liver (Gossa Dama)- $3.90 per stick

This dish was impeccable and in our opinion, the star of the show. The liver was flawlessly grilled and very fresh. You wouldn't have much time photographing this dish as it comes with a 40-second timer where you must eat it within the time limit, almost like a delicious ticking time bomb which you have to eat to diffuse it. The reason is that the liver will carryover cook, affecting the taste and moisture. It has a tender and bouncy texture and the morsel bursts in the mouth if you do eat it quick enough but do be careful as it is really hot. The liver seasoning is on point displaying no signs of frozen or stale liver taste. It's a delicious way to introduce liver to your non-liver eating friends and family.

Braken Starch Dumpling (Warabi Mochi) with Green Tea Ice Cream- $7.80

Matcha ice cream and pillowy soft Warabi Mochic, something you can’t go wrong with and makes for a sweet ending to a great meal.

In conclusion, Gosso Yakitori Dining is a wonderful place to satisfy your Yakitori cravings. The ambience is charming and relaxing, whether it's sitting by the river or the snug interior of the restaurant and the service is friendly and speedy.
